FILMS

The Upper Hunter has been the setting for numerous films over the decades, a selection of which can be found below. Smiley Gets a Gun (1958) was filmed in Gundy, and many local residents were included as extras. The Disney film Ride a Wild Pony (1975) was filmed in Belltrees, with a convoy of thirty vehicles providing food and enough power to "light the Scone township". The Picture Show Man (1977) was filmed in Murrurundi. In the same year, The Chant of Jimmie  Blacksmith (1978), was filmed in the Sparkes Creek Valley. Finally, In Pursuit of Honor (1995) was filmed in the Scone region, with the Horse Capital of Australia being ideal for a film which needed up to 500 horses.

For further information on films made in Scone and its surrounding regions, see Heather Ashford's book Moving Images and The Theatre (1997). The above information was obtained from Ashford's book.
